Italy's goalkeeper has been replaced by a change of teammate just a few days before the Azzurri training camp: Guglielmo Vicario will not be available due to physical problems and Luciano Spalletti has chosen to call up Marco Carnesecchi in his place.
The Atalanta goalkeeper thus returns to the national team after more than a year of absence, the last appearance dating back to March 2024, on the occasion of the American tour with the friendlies against Venezuela and Ecuador. Carnesecchi will reach the Azzurri retreat on Saturday 31 May, when he will begin preparation for the two 2026 World Cup qualifying matches against Norway and Moldova.
A new opportunity for the Goddess's number one, coming off a season of improvement with Atalanta and ready to contribute at a key moment in the Azzurri's journey. Spalletti is counting on him to provide consistency and reliability in the Italian goal, while waiting to see how Vicario 's recovery time is.
