Tonight, the long-awaited directorial and starring debut of Giovanni Esposito arrives at the cinema with his film “Nero”. An intense and moving drama, capable of pushing you to reflect on the value of life and the weight of our choices.
The cast includes Susy Del Giudice, Alessandro Haber, Ambeta Toromani and Giovanni Calcagno: a highly talented ensemble that helps make “Nero” an unmissable work.
a statement that summarizes the indissoluble bond between the protagonist and the path that awaits him, as confirmed by Giovanni Esposito himself when we asked him why he made this choice.
The plot revolves around Nero (Giovanni Esposito), a middle-aged man driven to petty crimes to support his sister Imma. During a robbery, however, Nero accidentally kills a gas station attendant; to his great astonishment, the man miraculously wakes up unharmed. On site, some attribute the prodigy to the statue of the "Madonna dei detersivi" inside the store, but the policeman Abate intuits that the real cause is Nero himself.
Tracked down by the inspector, Nero is begged to repeat the “miracle” by helping Abate’s daughter, who is seriously in a coma. To avoid prison, he accepts: this time too, the young woman comes back to life, but at a terrible price. Each miracle costs Nero one of the five senses, until the final sacrifice.
“Nero” asks a fundamental question: how much is a man willing to lose in order to save others? The answer is never obvious, and the film takes us on an emotional journey through altruism, suffering and redemption.
As a director, Esposito demonstrates great mastery in building an atmosphere full of tension and emotion, enhancing the performances of the cast. Above all, Susy Del Giudice stands out as Imma: her interpretation - sensitive and profound - is capable of tearing the heart apart.
In addition to the story, “Nero” is a tribute to the views of Castel Volturno, Mondragone, Lago Patria and Pollena Trocchia, rendered with extraordinary authenticity. Daniele Ciprì’s photography skillfully plays on the boundaries between reality and dream, amplifying the emotional nuances of the protagonists.
“Nero” is a film that strikes straight to the heart and invites us to question the true meaning of sacrifice. Don’t miss this story of faith, pain and hope: in theaters from May 15th.

The movie “Nero” looks interesting, but I’m not sure if I’ll go see it. The plot is a bit complicated and I don’t know if I can understand all the themes that are discussed. However, I like the idea of miracles and sacrifice.
