A widespread and profitable illegal streaming network has been dismantled by the Guardia di Finanza of Lecce, which has reported four people and identified over 2.300 end users, residents of 81 Italian provinces, who accessed pirated content via the IPTV system, better known as “pezzotto”. The operation, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office of the Salento capital, has struck at the heart of a business worth over half a million euros.
The illegal signal distribution center, which allowed live viewing of sports events and other pay TV content for a few euros a month, was active right in Lecce. The investigations, conducted with the support of the Special Unit for Goods and Services of Roma, led to the preventive seizure of five properties, two cars (one of which was vintage) and approximately 60.000 euros in cash, attributable to the main suspect.
Investigators have documented a structured activity, capable of reaching thousands of users through traceable payments on prepaid cards and digital systems. Thanks to this information, banking and otherwise, it was possible to trace the identity of each user of the service with precision. All were notified of a report of assessment for violation of copyright, with aggravating circumstances in the event of repeat offenses.

The operation by the Guardia di Finanza was very important in combating the illegality that exists in the streaming sector. It is a problem that involves many people and that deserves attention from the competent authorities. I hope that these efforts continue.
