Organized under the patronage of the Municipality of Bacoli and the Associazione Campana Editori, this award shines a spotlight on works that are not afraid to explore “the sulphurous chronicles of an unacceptable reality,” as described in his iconic 1994 “Pizzeria Inferno,” which launched him onto the global literary scene with translations in Spain, France, Greece, and Germany. Conceived and tenaciously directed by Serio’s daughter, who has taken on the role of artistic guide, the award aims to promote genre literature in an unprejudiced way, discovering emerging or already established authors and transforming Bacoli into an epicenter of unbridled culture and connections. The goal is to create a lively network between writers, publishers, and readers, enhancing the territory as a hub of bold and unstoppable creativity.
Explosive Categories and Rules Not to be Missed
The competition focuses on two main categories: the humorous-grotesque-pulp one and the one dedicated to mystery and noir, designed for works published by publishing houses in the last two years, excluding self-publishing. A jury of experts and a ceremony that promises sparks
The jury, made up of industry figures such as Andrea Carlo Cappi, Valerio Caprara, Antonella Cilento, Peppe Lanzetta, Angelo Petrella and Serge Quadruppani, will announce the three finalists 20 days before the awards ceremony, scheduled for Saturday 25 October 2025 in Bacoli. The initiative is interesting but I don't know if rewarding only emerging authors is the best choice, it could limit the known works that would deserve visibility, I hope that also already known authors can participate.
