The Municipality of Procida will collect 450 thousand euros as unpaid landing tax. The announcement was made by Mayor Dino Ambrosino, who announced on social media the victory of the institution in the tax dispute with Gestour, a shipping company that connects the island to the port of Pozzuoli.
At the heart of the affair is the failure to pay the landing fee that, according to the Municipality, the company should have paid for thousands of passengers who landed on the island, especially during the year in which Procida was the Italian Capital of Culture.
However, Gestour reported much lower numbers, accompanied by reports deemed inconsistent.
After a series of reminders and checks - including checks by the municipal police at the landings - the administration proceeded with a tax assessment of 900 thousand euros. The case ended up before the Tax Commission, which sanctioned a mediation for approximately 450 thousand euros. The amount was then definitively confirmed by the Tax Court of Justice.
A positive outcome for the Municipality, which now aims to strengthen controls to ensure the regularity of payments by all companies.
