A song that embodies collective memory, a sound exploration that unites the folk roots of Southern Italy with contemporary experimentation: this is "Vocazioni," the first album by Ra di Spina, a musical project led by singer, performer, and vocal researcher Laura Cuomo. The work was released on May 23rd by Agualoca Records.
The group will perform on June 1st with a showcase at the Auditorium Novecento in Naples: 22:30 pm, entrance fee €10 with CD included, pre-sales on Etes.it.
A choral album between folk, electronic and world music
“Vocazioni” is a visionary work that draws from the oral tradition of the South, reworking it through vocal polyphony, electric guitars, tribal rhythms and experimental electronics. The album is born from the collaboration between Laura Cuomo (vocals, electronics and research), Alexsandra Ida Mauro (vocals), Ernesto Nobili (guitar and production) and Francesco Paolo Manna (percussion), in a journey that explores the theme of the “call”: that of ancient voices, forgotten stories, social struggles and popular identities.
"Voices that chase each other, listened to, imagined, dreamed. Voices that tell of divine and earthly loves, restoring the power of archaic melodies ," the group explains. An album that transforms singing into a political and poetic act, where the voice becomes a tool for connecting past and present.
"The voice is the threshold and root of identity ," explains Laura Cuomo. " Through it, being manifests itself, in its being in the world and in its becoming. Ensemble singing in Ra di Spina is the rediscovery of a collective, shared dimension."
After the preview in Barcelona last April, in the company of Maria Mazzotta and as part of the Napoli World festival, and subsequently in Rome, Ra di Spina will bring “Vocazioni” on tour on June 19th at the Medimex in Taranto and then in Bologna, Palermo, the Marche, Basilicata and Salento (dates to be defined).
