Naples – The other afternoon, a joint operation by the police, the Carabinieri and the municipal police put the Scampia neighbourhood under the magnifying glass, with an extraordinary territorial control service aimed at countering motorcycle raids and related crimes, especially in Piazza Ciro Esposito and the surrounding areas.

During the blitz, law enforcement identified 70 people, 20 of whom had criminal records, and checked 33 vehicles, including motorcycles and mopeds. The activity led to the administrative seizure of one vehicle, destined for confiscation, and seven other vehicles.

In addition, 17 violations of the Highway Code were contested, for infractions such as driving without a license, lack of insurance, expired MOT and lack of helmet. The fines imposed amount to a total of 14.994 euros.

Not just road checks: the officers reported two people for illegal possession of narcotics, after having caught them with 3,5 grams of hashish. The operation is part of a broader plan to strengthen security in the neighborhood, with the aim of ensuring order and legality.

The operation in Scampia was important because it helps maintain security. But the numbers of people with criminal records are worrying and more needs to be done to improve the situation in the neighborhood.
