Lino Musella is performing at the Teatro Sannazaro in Naples with his show "L'ammore nun'è ammore," which opens on May 16. This bold production, produced by the Cadmo Cultural Association and accompanied by Marco Vidino's hypnotic music on string instruments and percussion, transforms Shakespeare's classic sonnets into an explosion of raw emotion and Neapolitan passion—a twist that challenges the rules of traditional theater.

An Irreverent Journey Through Shakespeare's Verses

Musella leads the audience on a poetic and visceral journey, where the Bard's immortal verses are "betrayed" in Neapolitan by the whimsical Dario Jacobelli.

Born from a previous study at the Eco Logic Theatre Festival in Stromboli, the show is an unbridled performance of feelings, with magnetic atmospheres that blend love, beauty, and the fragility of life in a boldly seductive and down-to-earth language. “Dario Jacobelli, a poet who died prematurely in 2013, author of short stories and novels, a skilled lyricist for musicians such as Bisca, 99 Posse and Almamegretta – recalls the actor – he devoted himself in the last years of his life to the translation into Neapolitan and the betrayal, as he liked to call it, of 30 of Shakespeare's Sonnets. He had no deadlines, he did not have to respect the instructions or corrections of any publisher. As clients he had his dearest friends to whom he dedicated each of his new translations. The Sonnets in Neapolitan sound good. They beat with their own heart. They wear a mask that forces them to rise from the paper to take flight, keeping their feet on the ground”.

Times Not to be Missed

For those who want to immerse themselves in this emotional chaos, performances are scheduled for the following slots: Friday at 21.00:19.00 PM, Saturday at 18.00:XNUMX PM, and Sunday at XNUMX:XNUMX PM – don't miss your chance to witness this furious encounter between classicism and Neapolitan rebellion.

The idea of mixing Shakespeare's sonnets with Neapolitan dialect is interesting but could be confusing to those who are not familiar with the culture. I hope the show manages to convey the emotions without losing the original meaning.

I don't know if this fusion between tradition and innovation is actually effective. The risk is that the essence of Shakespeare's work is lost, but I'm curious to see how Musella will handle this challenge.
