Castellammare – Investigators have recovered the melted head, the device connecting the Faito cable car cabin to the haul rope: a key technical component that could shed light on the cause of the disaster that occurred on April 17, which cost the lives of three tourists and the driver, Carmine Parlato.

The discovery, made by the Flying Squad and the Scientific Police on the orders of the Torre Annunziata Prosecutor's Office, marks a turning point in the investigation. The component will now be subjected to analysis by the technical consultant appointed by the magistrates, who will have to establish whether the damage detected is the origin of the structural failure or a consequence of the impact.

According to an initial reconstruction, the towing cable would have broken and the emergency brake would not have come into effect, making any attempt to avoid the tragic crash futile.

At the moment, four EAV executives and officials – the company that manages the plant – are registered in the register of investigated, in an act required in view of the autopsy. However, with the awarding of the super-expert report, the number of suspects could rise. The investigations, coordinated by the prosecutor Nunzio Fragliasso, aim to clarify any technical and managerial responsibilities.

But what is a fused head?

The cast head is an artifact that allows you to connect the rope to a structure, here we see a medium-sized one. To make the cast head, the rope is tied at one end with wire and then the six strands are opened completely. The next phase is the cleaning of the bow which is done by ultrasonic washing: this is the process that creates the goodness of the rope.

When the finished cast head is ready to be put into the traction machine and has the same goodness as rope if it is made well.

But in addition to being well done, it must also be checked. And every five years – the law says – replaced.

The article talks about the fused head which is important but I don't really understand how it works. I hope the investigation will clarify everything, although there are many technical details that are not clear to me. Safety is paramount.

But they don't let us see it.
In the case of the Mottarone cableway, it took them more than 2 and a half years to transform the piece of rope attached to the fused head into a block of rust, forgetting that the other end of the rope was completely free of corrosion, and claiming that the breakage was progressive: 2 PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE things.
Lack of transparency is a bad premise
