Peschici – A 40-year-old man, originally from Naples, was arrested in flagrante delicto by the Peschici Carabinieri on charges of aggravated fraud and resisting a public official.
A minor, his accomplice, was also reported. The two staged a proven scam to the detriment of an 89-year-old man.
The forty-year-old, pretending to be a lieutenant of the police, showed up at the victim's house after a phone call in which a self-styled marshal had convinced the elderly man that his car had been used in a robbery, announcing a check by "colleagues".
Using this pretext, the scammer managed to get 4.100 euros in cash and several gold jewels.
A minor who accompanied him was also reported
Suspicious, the89enne alerted the real carabinieri. The police intercepted the two as they attempted to escape on board a rental car. During the search, the military recovered all the stolen goods. The man was arrested, while the minor was reported. Investigations are continuing to ascertain any other similar incidents.

The article talks about a very serious scam, but I wonder how people fall into these traps. It is important that there are more awareness campaigns for the elderly, so that this does not happen again.
