From May 19 to 23, the Catalan Josep Maria Miró, one of the most controversial and acclaimed figures in European drama, will land at the Tedér – Teatro del Rimedio (Via Flavio Gioia, 66) for an intensive workshop that promises to shake up the stagnant waters of Italian theatre.
An Opportunity Not to be Missed
Organized by the cultural association Nuovo Teatro Sanità as part of “dramma lab,” a professional development project for emerging authors recognized by the MIC, Miró’s workshop will focus on the boldly manipulative use of words to build relationships, roles, and tensions on stage. Participants from various fields of the performing arts will engage in the analysis and writing of monologues and dialogues, with the aim of forging tortuous characters and theatrical architectures that leave no escape. Among the texts to study in advance: Basement by Josep Maria Benet i Jornet, Après moi le déluge by Lluïsa Cunillé, and The Most Beautiful Body That Has Ever Been Found in This Place by Miró himself, a work that literally revolutionized Spanish theater.
The Unseemly Secrets of Scenic Speech
Miró, author of texts translated into over twenty languages and performed in more than thirty countries, is certainly not one to hold back: his works, including El Monstruo, Yo, travesti, The White Room, Restos del fulgor nocturno, The Most Beautiful Body That Has Ever Been Found in This Place and Wild Time, have collected awards such as the National Prize for Dramatic Literature and the Born Prize (won three times). As a professor and coordinator of the dramaturgy area at the University of Girona, a member of the reading committee of the Teatre Nacional de Catalunya and a teacher at the Sala Beckett in Barcelona, Miró is seen as an edgy and influential voice, capable of bringing out the rawest tensions of our time through the scenic word. In Italy, his works such as Il principio di Archimede and Nerium Park have already caused a stir, with three volumes translated by Angelo Savelli for Cue Press. This event in Naples is the perfect opportunity to discover how dangerously effective playwriting can be.

The article talks about a workshop being held in Naples with Josep Maria Miró. It sounds interesting, although I'm not sure what to expect. Playwriting can be difficult, but it could lead to new ideas and opportunities for participants.
