Naples - The young LDM, convicted in the first instance for the murder of Santo Romano, was subjected to two interrogations in recent days at the Casal del Marmo Juvenile Detention Center.
+The report was made by the boy's lawyer Antonino Castorino, in a statement shedding light on new charges against his client and on a complaint filed by the minor's family regarding threats on social media.
Prison protests: cell phones and rudimentary cutters
The interrogations, requested by the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office of Rome and the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office of Naples—with the presence of Dr. Patrizia Imperato, Juvenile Prosecutor of Naples, in one of the interviews—concerned the possession and use of cell phones in two different penitentiaries where LDM was incarcerated.
The Rome Prosecutor's Office also charged him with possession of a rudimentary cutter, made with a toothbrush and a razor blade.
The young inmate answered all questions, taking full responsibility for the use of the telephones, but specified that the box cutter was used for personal hygiene and was never left the cell, nor was it intended to offend or threaten anyone.
The use of cell phones in prison, he explained, was aimed at contacting family and friends.
Attorney Castorino clarified that the charges leveled against the minor do not contain any threatening or provocative conduct, either towards third parties or the victim's family.
The complaint of the minor's family for threats on social media
In parallel with the protests, the family of the detained minor has filed a formal complaint with the Naples Police Headquarters. The complaint concerns the publication on social media of insulting phrases and threats to the family of Holy Roman, using profiles with uncertain identities and photos of their son. LDM's family thus intends to censor and prosecute anyone who engages in such "inappropriate, despicable, and criminally relevant conduct."
A path of redemption and shared pain
Attorney Castorino emphasized that the young prisoner is undertaking a "responsible path of redemption and recovery," aware of the mistakes he made and with the full support of his family and lawyers.
The events surrounding him, and in particular the murder for which he is being held, have caused "unbridgeable pain to the injured party, but also profound suffering to him and his family."
The defense believes that "lowering the tone on everyone's part could lead to greater serenity also with respect to the various disputes following the criminal incident and to shed light on certain conduct which certainly needs to be censured regardless of who carried it out, but whose competence and activity of ascertaining the facts falls to the judicial authority".
