Naples – Yesterday was a day of fire in the metropolitan area of Naples, where multiple fires kept the authorities on alert and required the incessant intervention of the Fire Brigade.
The monitoring table established by the Prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, has carefully followed the evolution of the situation, with fires that have hit various areas, including via Gianturco and Secondigliano in Naples, a quarry in Villaricca and another in Tufino.
Added to these is the devastating fire in the pine forest of Baia Domizia, in Cellole, which licked the beaches, sowing panic among bathers.
A Baia Domizia, the flames, fueled by dry vegetation and the wind, devoured hectares of pine forest, destroying pedestrian bridges and threatening beach resorts. The thick column of smoke, visible for kilometers, forced the many tourists on the beach to flee, while the Fire Brigade of Mondragone and Caserta, together with the Civil Protection, worked tirelessly to contain the blaze, which caused extensive damage but, fortunately, no injuries.
Failure to clear brush in the pine forest was cited as a contributing factor in the rapid spread of the fire.
Flames last night in a quarry in Tufino
Meanwhile, in Villaricca, a fire in a quarry was quickly contained, while in Tufino another fire in a quarry late yesterday evening, with operations continuing into the night.
The Prefect of Bari expressed deep gratitude to the Fire Brigade for their extraordinary commitment on a particularly intense day, underlining their crucial role in ensuring the safety of the population. The authorities continue to monitor the situation, while renewed appeals for greater prevention, especially in high-risk areas such as Baia Domizia, where the lack of maintenance has aggravated the consequences of the fires.
