Monteforte Irpino – Antonio Noviello, the elderly mushroom hunter who disappeared yesterday, was found this afternoon in a remote area of the Partenio massif.
The 87-year-old had left his home in Monteforte Irpino for a walk in the woods, but had not returned, triggering the alarm.
After the activation of the Missing Persons Plan by the Prefecture of Avellino, a massive search operation was launched involving numerous forces in the field.
The intervention of the Alpine Rescue team of the Guardia di Finanza of Sant'Angelo dei Lombardi, supported by the Jaque canine unit, was crucial. They located the man in the late afternoon, in what was considered fair health, although weakened by the night spent in the open.
The doctor was located in a wooded area far from where he had left his car, in the Portella area. Recovery operations are still ongoing.
The National Alpine and Speleological Rescue Corps of Campania (CNSAS), the Fire Brigade, the Carabinieri of the Provincial Command of Avellino, volunteers from the Italian Red Cross, as well as helicopters from the Guardia di Finanza and the Fire Brigade engaged in aerial reconnaissance, also participated in the search.

It is great news that this gentleman has been found, but I wonder how such a thing could happen. It is important that people be more careful when going into the woods to avoid dangerous situations.
