Ooperation of the Guardia di Finanza in Sannio. The financial police of the Provincial Command of Benevento seized 154 kilograms of cut tobacco, most likely intended for the illegal production of cigarettes.
The blitz took place in recent days along state road 372, in the territory of San Salvatore Telesino, where the soldiers of the Solopaca branch stopped a van with Romanian license plates for a check.
On board the vehicle were two Moldovan citizens, who immediately appeared to be in a state of obvious agitation. The suspicious behavior prompted the financial police to carefully inspect the vehicle, inside which a cardboard box containing the rolled tobacco was found.
During the personal searches, the two were found in possession of 5.700 euros in cash, divided between Italian currency and Romanian lei, believed to be the presumed proceeds of illegal activity.
The detainees did not provide any plausible explanation as to the origin of the tobacco, nor did they possess the necessary documentation to justify their transportation. For this reason, they were reported at large for smuggling of manufactured tobacco to the Public Prosecutor's Office of Benevento. In addition to the load, the van and the money found were also seized.
Investigations are still ongoing to reconstruct the illegal supply chain and identify the origin and destination of the cargo. The operation is part of a broader anti-illegal trafficking device implemented by the Guardia di Finanza in the provincial territory.

The article talks about an important operation of the Fiamme Gialle. It is strange how there are still people who smuggle tobacco, despite the obvious risks. We hope that the investigations lead to useful results to stop this phenomenon.
