Double Neapolitan culinary stop for Bono Vox, the leader of U2, in love with Naples and Neapolitan cuisine, stopped yesterday at Mimì alla Ferrovia and today instead at the starred chef Gennarino Esposito at the Torre del Saracino restaurant in Marina di Seiano in the municipality of Vico Equense

“I'm your lucky charm,” Bono joked with chef Salvatore Giugliano, of the historic Neapolitan restaurant.Mimi at the railway” recalling how two years ago, on the eve of Napoli’s third Scudetto, he had been in the city: “I came in 2023 and the title arrived, I came back now and you won another. I bring good luck”.

“I bring good luck to Napoli football club”

In the historic restaurant in Piazza Garibaldi, Bono wanted to replicate the gastronomic experience of 2023: he ordered the same dishes and the same Campania wine, with one thought fixed in his mind: “I have never gotten your Genovese out of my head. And the clams… the best I have ever eaten”.

The singer-songwriter greeted the entire Giugliano family warmly, remembering their names one by one, and sang, just like two years ago with Michele, a poignant version of “Torna a Surriento” that moved the staff. But he also performed an arm wrestling match with Michele Giugliano, one of the two owners of the venue.

Lunch at Marina di Seiano at Gennarino Esposito

The next day saw Bono Vox move to Vico Equense, where he had lunch at the Torre del Saracino overlooking the sea of Marina di Seiano. Chef Gennaro Esposito welcomed him and prepared a real journey through the flavors of Campania: polpetti alla Luciana, aubergine parmigiana according to the chef's mother's recipe, seared bonito with aubergines alla scapece and goat cheese, linguine with scuncigli and sea urchins, local sea bream baked with seasonal vegetables and, to finish, very fragrant apricots from Vesuvius.

“He was very friendly, we chatted and listened to music together,” chef Esposito told the Il Mattino website, who couldn't resist the temptation to have some original covers of the U2. “He was impressed by the technique and tradition of our dishes. He promised me he would return.”

It's really beautiful to see how Bono Vox loves Neapolitan cuisine, but I wonder if food is so important for a singer like him. I don't know if I understood the article well, but I hope he comes back.

Bono's passion for Naples and its dishes is interesting, but I don't know if it's just a way to attract attention. Maybe he really enjoyed the local cuisine or he's just pretending.
