Caserta – He escaped from house arrest in 2018, disappearing after a violent armed assault in a villa in the Naples area.

Now, after more than two years of intense investigations, a 33-year-old Albanian has been captured in Albania and definitively sentenced to 8 and a half years in prison for attempted murder and aggravated robbery.

The man, resident in San Cipriano d'Aversa (Caserta) at the time of the escape, was part of a criminal organisation specialising in home robberies between the provinces of Naples and Caserta. In particular, he is considered one of the authors of the violent assault on the home of a well-known entrepreneur, during which a real shootout took place.

The robbers were discovered by a neighbor of the victim, a law enforcement officer who tried to stop them. The 33-year-old reacted by opening fire on the policeman: a firefight ensued in which one of the members of the commando was injured. Following the episode, the man was placed under house arrest, but a few months later he escaped, starting a long period of hiding.

The investigations conducted by the Flying Squad of Caserta and the Central Operations Service, coordinated by the Attorney General's Office at the Court of Appeal of Naples. Thanks to the collaboration with the Albanian authorities - including the Police Directorate and Interpol of Tirana - and with the Central Directorate of the Italian Criminal Police, it was possible to precisely locate the fugitive and obtain the international extension of the arrest warrant.

The capture is part of the Wanted 2025 project

The operation is part of the “Wanted 2025” project, which aims to locate and arrest highly dangerous fugitives with the support of foreign police forces. Thanks to a dense investigative network and international cooperation, another piece is added to the fight against transnational organized crime.

The article talks about an escapee who was captured after a long time. It's interesting to know how law enforcement manages to track down fugitives, but I wonder if there are more details on how this arrest was made.
