Centola – A night of tension and fear in the hilltop hamlet of San Severino di Centola, in the heart of Cilento, where an attempted burglary at a home nearly turned tragic, resulting in one serious injury.
Around 22 pm the other evening, three men of Albanian origin broke into a house with the intention of carrying out a robbery. But the raid did not go as planned.
The owner, suspicious of some noises, noticed the thieves' presence. Armed with a legally held rifle, he found himself face to face with the thieves and opened fire, wounding one of them.
While the other two accomplices fled, the homeowner alerted the Carabinieri and 118, who arrived on the scene and rushed the injured man to the San Luca Hospital in Vallo della Lucania. Given his condition, a transfer to the Cardarelli Hospital in Naples for surgery is being considered.
The thief was injured and is in serious condition
The Carabinieri of the Sapri Operative and Radiomobile Unit, together with their colleagues from the Centola Station, questioned the homeowner who shot at the thieves to reconstruct the exact dynamics of the events and in the meantime the search began to track down the other two thieves on the run. The rifle was seized.
This morning we are awaiting the decision of the magistrate of the Lagonegro Court, competent for the territory, who could enter the man who opened fire on the thieves in the register of suspects
What happened in Centola is a very serious matter, but we must be careful how we react in similar situations. Using a rifle is not always the right solution, there can be serious consequences for everyone.
