CHerculaneum – A check in a public housing project in the Caravita district of Cercola was enough to reveal an alarming situation: numerous illegal connections to the electricity grid that could have caused a serious blackout.
The discovery was made by Carabinieri of the Torre del Greco Company, with the support of the technicians of the electricity company, during an extraordinary control service of the territory. And in the end six people were reported for aggravated theft of electricity.

A significant economic damage, still being quantified, but above all a very serious risk for public safety.

Illegal connections, often made in a rudimentary way and without any attention to safety standards, can cause short circuits, fires or electrocutions. “A silent threat that looms over entire families,” the military explained in a note, “and that can endanger not only those responsible but the entire building.”
The situation was immediately reported to the relevant authorities, with the aim of restoring the minimum conditions of safety and legality within the housing complex.
During the same operation, vehicles and people in transit in the area were also checked: five violations of the Highway Code were ascertained, while a stolen car was found and seized.
