Amalfi – “The Coast has been transformed into an open-air velodrome. Those who speed along the Amalfi Coast at crazy speeds are not only breaking the law, but are endangering everyone’s lives.”
Launching yet another appeal is Franco Florio, territorial delegate of Amalfi of FeNAILP, the national federation representing entrepreneurs and professionals of micro, small and medium enterprises.
The complaint comes a few hours after yet another tragedy: a man was hit and killed by a large-engine motorcycle along the coastal route, yet another victim of what Florio defines as a "dangerous and unacceptable drift".
“During all the winter weekends and for the entire summer season – he explains – these roads become the scene of improvised races. We can no longer remain silent. We have repeatedly asked the Prefect, Anas and the mayors of the area to adopt concrete measures. We need to install fixed speed cameras along the entire route: it is the only real deterrent”.
Florio also underlines the social and economic value of such an intervention: "It is no longer just about road safety, but a collective moral responsibility. Every life lost represents a defeat.
With speed cameras we can save lives and at the same time generate a useful revenue for the Municipalities, resources that could be reinvested in safety and services for citizens and tourists".
The Amalfi Coast State Road 163, already fragile in terms of morphology and traffic, continues to reveal itself as a high-risk artery, where – between sharp bends and risky maneuvers – it only takes a moment for a day at the beach to turn into a tragedy.

It is true that road safety is important, but I believe that speed cameras alone are not enough. We also need to educate drivers to respect the rules and not to speed. Every accident hurts.
