Jonathan David dampens enthusiasm and makes his position clear: no agreement with Napoli, no understanding with Juventus. The Canadian international striker, interviewed by The Athletic , breaks his silence on transfer rumors that he's close to a move to Italy, denying any definitive contacts with the two Serie A giants, but without closing his doors to the Italian league.
His tenure at Lille has just ended after five seasons, but David leaves the French club without resentment, and indeed with words of gratitude. "I had a great time, and there was no reason to leave on a negative note," he explains, clarifying that his departure was for free and was a sign of mutual respect. Now a new chapter begins for him, one yet to be written. "I don't know what awaits me, but the future will be exciting. Knowing I'll be facing a new challenge is already exciting in itself."
Regarding Napoli, newly crowned Italian champions in 2023, David acknowledges the caliber of the project. "They're an ambitious club, playing in the Champions League and don't want to stop at just one Scudetto ," he comments. As for Juventus, he admits the pressure can be greater, but considers it a constant at certain levels: "Wherever you go, there's pressure to perform. You have to earn your place, satisfy the fans, and win every game."
Italy appeals to him, also for technical reasons. "Serie A is much more tactical, almost like a chess game ," he explains, comparing it to a more frenetic and physical Premier League. These words don't rule out a future in Italy, but they paint it as something still to be built.
