Napoli – The President of the Campania Region, Vincenzo De Luca, has officially asked the Conference of Regions and Autonomous Provinces to evaluate a postponement of the next regional elections, scheduled for the next few months.
The request is contained in a letter addressed to the President of the Conference, Massimiliano Fedriga, and will be discussed today during an extraordinary session via videoconference.
De Luca, who has reached the end of his second consecutive term, motivates the proposal with the need to complete a series of strategic interventions for Campania which, in his opinion, would risk being stopped in the event of an interruption of administrative continuity.
In the document, the governor Lists the areas most exposed to a possible slowdown:
healthcare, defined as “the sector with the highest number of interventions at risk”;
the new headquarters of the Campania Region;
projects related to the PNRR, sport, transport and the environment.
Particular attention is paid to the waste issue, where – De Luca writes – “there is a real risk that the process for the elimination of the European sanction on the waste cycle and for the definitive removal of the eco-bales will be blocked”.
“These are just some of the major projects that, with a slight extension of the electoral deadline, can be secured and taken off,” explains the president of Campania in the letter.
In concluding his request, Vincenzo De Luca he emphasizes the "objective" nature of the reasons that push him to propose the postponement: "It would truly be a huge damage for the entire regional community not to guarantee the completion of these interventions. I ask you to evaluate the opportunity to request a brief postponement of the electoral deadline".
Campania is one of the regions that will go to the polls in the next administrative round. De Luca's proposal, destined to spark discussion also on a political level, now opens a new front in the national debate on electoral deadlines and the management of major projects underway.
