In a time when information flows quickly, and often without roots, the figure of Geppino Avitabile reminds us how valuable the coherence, courage and patience of those who build in silence are.

Having passed away suddenly, Geppino leaves a deep void in his family and in all those who, over the years, have recognized his example. A printer and publisher, forty years ago he founded Napolinord, an independent periodical that from Frattamaggiore has been able to speak to an entire area, telling it without filters, with respect and determination.

Geppino was a craftsman of the word and of truth. He did not seek the spotlight: he worked behind the scenes, but with the awareness that the press is a service, a moral duty even before a professional one.

With Napolinord he gave a voice to those who had none, offering space to forgotten stories, denouncing injustices, asking uncomfortable questions when it was easier to remain silent. His battles, often criticized, were a testimony of inner freedom: over time, many of his denunciations proved to be prophetic, based on a deep knowledge of the territory and a rare ethical clarity.

In a world accustomed to chasing consensus, Geppino chose the most difficult path, that of truth, coherence, patient work. He left a silent but powerful legacy, made of printed paper, but also of dignity, respect, and civic sense. He is remembered with sincere affection and gratitude not only for what he did, but for how he did it, with an obstinate kindness, with a calm that spoke more than a thousand editorials.

“He was a man of peace,” his family said of him. And these words perhaps encapsulate the deepest aspect of his personality: not just a man who told the truth, but someone who tried, in his own small way, to heal it. His figure lives today in the heart of his daughter Rosalba, a journalist for Il Mattino, who has taken up the baton with immense passion, and in all those who know that good information is not entertainment, but service.

In commemorating Geppino Avitabile, we celebrate a witness of our time. A silent but determined man, capable of leaving a deep mark precisely because he chose never to trample on that of others.
