The animal, a female American Staffordshire Terrier named “Nairobi,” was found in critical condition in an area measuring just one meter by one and a half meters, without adequate space and with poor hygienic conditions.
The desperate howl of the animal signaled the situation, which attracted the attention of a patrol from the local Arma Station. Arriving on site, the soldiers immediately noticed that the dog's mouth was stuck in the wire of the small enclosure. Inside the fenced area there were only two bowls, one completely empty and the other with a modest amount of water.
Through the identification microchip, the Carabinieri were able to trace the owner, a 47-year-old resident of Marcianise, who was reported at large on charges of animal cruelty. The authorities also ordered the man to immediately transfer the dog to a more suitable place.
The animal's conditions, fortunately, were stabilized thanks to the timely intervention of the military. The episode brings back to the center the importance of respecting animal welfare and the need to report any possible case of negligence or abuse.
