Yesterday afternoon, a 29-year-old of Ukrainian origin, already known to the police for specific precedents, was arrested by the State Police on charges of aggravated theft in competition, receiving stolen goods and resisting a public official.
The intervention took place in via Peppino De Filippo, in the Foria area, the same street where two evenings there was explosion which caused one death and four injuries, as well as damage and evacuation of two buildings and damage to the well-known restaurant “A figlia d'o marenao”.
It was a report received by the Operations Room that alerted the agents of the Vicaria-Mercato Police Station to a theft in progress inside a tool shed.
When they arrived at the scene, the police officers identified a scooter running and a woman who, upon seeing the patrol car, shouted something to an accomplice. The man, who was carrying a toolbox, ran out of the building and, getting on the vehicle, fled. The woman, however, managed to escape.
A chase ensued during which the fugitive endangered traffic with dangerous maneuvers. The officers managed to catch up with him and stop him, not without difficulty, after a brief scuffle. The 29-year-old was found in possession of a screwdriver and a lock pick, while the stolen toolbox was found on the scooter's footboard.
The investigation revealed that the moped had been stolen that morning: the ignition switch was damaged, the steering lock was torn off and the electrical system had been tampered with.
The young man was then arrested. The tools and the scooter were returned to their rightful owners. Investigations are continuing to identify the accomplice.

It's incredible how there are people who continue to commit thefts despite the consequences. The police are doing a good job, but more attention is needed on streets like those, especially after the explosion that happened before.
Yes, it is true that safety must be a priority, but it is also important to understand why certain young people come to these actions. Perhaps there are deeper problems to address in society.
