The blitz – coordinated by the Naples Police Headquarters and conducted with Carabinieri, Guardia di Finanza, Municipal Police, Harbour Master's Office, Fire Brigade, ASL Napoli 2 Nord and Labour Inspectorate – led to heavy fines and a criminal seizure.

The crimes that emerged: from “illegal” workers to illegal occupation of state property. In the first structure checked, the agents discovered:

A worker without a regular contract
Serious hygiene and health deficiencies in a food warehouse, resulting in suspension of activity
Failure to comply with HACCP standards for food safety
But it was in the second beach that the hardest blow arrived:

8 irregular employees
Illegal occupation of 2.000 square meters of state-owned beach
Record fine of 15.000 euros
Premises seized: ignored closure order

The third business came under scrutiny for repeatedly violating a closure order: the criminal seizure was the epilogue of conduct deemed inadmissible by the authorities.

The checks are part of the summer plan of the Police Headquarters to guarantee safety and legality in tourist areas. "We will not tolerate abuses that damage workers, consumers and the territory", the clear message launched by the police, who promise new surprise raids along the entire coast.

Reading this article it seems to me that the authorities are doing an important job for security. However, I wonder if these controls are sufficient to solve the problems of illegality and if the sanctions are really effective in the long term.
