Naples– The gas leak that caused a violent explosion in a building in Naples on Wednesday evening, which cost the life of Giovanni Scala, 57, and injured two other people, may have started on the first floor. A woman is hospitalized in serious condition.
The most widely accepted hypothesis at the moment is that the gas accumulated in an apartment on the first floor: the very powerful explosion caused the collapse of the floor underneath and literally threw the woman out of the building.
However, this is still a preliminary reconstruction, based on initial surveys and testimonies collected on site.
The investigations of the Naples mobile squad
The Naples Flying Squad is investigating the tragedy, under the coordination of the Prosecutor's Office - "work and professional negligence" section - with the public prosecutor Federica D'Amodio and the deputy prosecutor Antonio Ricci. At the moment the file has been opened against unknown persons.
The verification operations are entrusted to the firefighters, supported by experts from the Scientific Police, who are examining the remains of the building in search of elements useful for clarifying the dynamics and causes of the explosion.
The entire area has been cordoned off and made safe, while evacuated residents wait to find out when they will be able to return to their homes.
