Napoli – A particularly lively session of the City Council took place yesterday in the Sala dei Baroni, with the problems of the taxi sector at the center of the debate.

While some interventions have been appreciated for their constructive approach, others have raised strong controversies, leaving a part of the category dissatisfied.
City Councilors Luigi Carbone and Claudio Cecere received praise from trade organizations for their targeted and proactive interventions. Attentive to the needs of the sector, they concretely addressed crucial issues such as:
Improving urban mobility
Reduction of critical issues in rest areas
Strengthening services for operators
“Finally a policy that listens and acts,” commented a representative of the taxi drivers present in the room.
Criticisms of the Councilor for Legality: only sanctions, no solution
The tone used by the Councillor for Legality was very different, Antonio De Iesu, whose speech left the representatives of the sector perplexed. Despite numerous preliminary meetings with the Trade Unions, the Councilor focused his speech almost exclusively on repressive and sanctioning measures, without providing concrete answers to the requests made for months:
Commercial Speed – Need for Clear Rules to Avoid Unequal Treatment.
Traffic Plan – Call for effective coordination to reduce urban congestion.
Reopening of ZTLs – Unsolved problem that continues to penalize operators.
Fight against illegal trading – A widespread phenomenon that damages the regular market.
“We are tired of broken promises and a punitive approach that does not solve the real problems,” said a spokesperson for the Neapolitan Taxi Drivers.
The category remains on alert: "We will not give up"
At the end of the session, the reactions among taxi drivers were clear: patience is running out. While on the one hand the commitment of some institutional representatives is recognized, on the other hand the disappointment towards those who continue to ignore the real needs of the sector is growing.
“Politics must understand that we are not willing to take a step back,” warned a trade unionist. “If there are no answers, we will be forced to intensify our protests.”
Next steps: monitoring and mobilization
The trade organizations have announced that they will continue to monitor the work of the Administration, ready to return to the streets if the requests are not heard. Meanwhile, the Voice of Neapolitan Taxi Drivers sends a clear message:
“Our fight is for better service and fair treatment. Those who govern us should choose which side they are on.”

The topic discussed in the article is very important, but there are many things that have not been clarified well. Taxi drivers need solutions, not just words. I wonder if there will be a follow-up to these discussions.
