Naples – A 43-year-old man was arrested by the State Police on charges of snatching theft, after stealing a cell phone from the hands of a young woman in via San Biagio dei Librai, in the heart of the historic center of Naples.
The man, a Neapolitan with a criminal record , was also reported for money laundering, having been found aboard a stolen scooter with an altered license plate.
The incident occurred yesterday morning. The officers of the Decumani Police Station, engaged in a territorial control service, intervened after a report reached the Operations Room indicating a mugging that had just been committed against a passerby.
A few minutes later, the police intercepted a suspicious scooter, driven by a man who, approaching a garbage bin, got rid of an object. Stopped for a check, the man tried to get rid of a cell phone which, after checking, turned out to be the one stolen from the victim.
The investigations also revealed that the motorcycle had been stolen and that it had a counterfeit license plate that did not correspond to the chassis number.
The man was taken to the police station, where he was arrested for theft by snatching and reported for money laundering. The phone was returned to its owner.
