Napoli – The checks by the State Police and the Italian Army continue without stopping as part of the “Stazioni Sicure” operation, which sees agents and soldiers engaged daily in the sensitive areas of Piazza Garibaldi and Naples Central Station.
On Friday, two people ended up in handcuffs: a 35-year-old Algerian, arrested for possession of narcotics with intent to sell, and a 20-year-old Tunisian, arrested for aggravated robbery and also reported for receiving stolen goods.
The first intervention took place in the morning. The agents of the Judicial Police team of the Department of Railway Police, during a patrol in Piazza Garibaldi, they noticed some individuals approaching a man with a suspicious attitude.
A young pusher who was dealing drugs inside the Central Station was also arrested
The latter, seeing himself observed, attempted to escape but was promptly stopped. The subsequent search allowed the discovery and seizure of approximately 110 grams of hashish divided into numerous bars.
In the afternoon, still in the same area, the Polfer police intervened in support of the Army soldiers after a young Tunisian had attacked and robbed a tourist of her cell phone near the bus station.
Alerted by the victim's screams, the officers managed to intercept and stop the boy after a short chase. In addition to the phone he had just stolen, they also found a second cell phone on him, for which he was unable to provide any explanation.
The two devices have been returned to their rightful owners, while blanket checks continue in the railway area, a sensitive target for combating petty crime and urban decay.

Operation Safe Stations seems to be producing results, but I wonder if the controls are enough to stop crime. It is a complicated issue and requires a deeper analysis of the underlying causes of crime.
