Napoli – The Montesanto funicular, one of the crucial hubs for Neapolitan mobility, will stop for five days starting today, Saturday 14 June, until Wednesday 18.
The system, which connects the lively Pignasecca area to Corso Vittorio Emanuele and the San Martino al Vomero neighborhood, will undergo extraordinary maintenance. Regular service will resume on Thursday, June 19.
The necessary intervention
The closure, announced by theNeapolitan company Mobility (ANM), is necessary to ensure the safety and efficiency of the infrastructure, used daily by thousands of citizens and tourists.
The Montesanto funicular, an integral part of the public transport system that facilitates access to the Vomero hills, will be subject to technical checks and modernization interventions to ensure optimal operating standards. The ANM did not provide specific details on the planned interventions, but assured that these are essential works for the maintenance of the system.
Inconvenience for commuters and residents
The stoppage, which will cover the entire weekend and the first days of the working week, risks creating inconvenience for residents of the neighborhoods served and for workers who rely on the funicolare to move quickly between the center and Vomero.
The closure comes at a time of high attendance, with summer attracting tourists to the attractions of San Martino, such as the Certosa and Castel Sant'Elmo. To mitigate the inconvenience, the ANM has announced the activation of replacement bus services, with shuttles that will cover the funicular route, although the timetables and routes will be communicated in the coming hours.
This has already caused some discontent among users, who are asking for greater clarity on the timing and organization of alternative services.
The ANM invites citizens to plan their travels in advance and to consult the official website or the company's social channels for real-time updates. With the return to full operations scheduled for Thursday, June 19, the goal is to ensure a safer and more reliable service for all users. In the meantime, Naples is preparing for five days of adaptation, with the hope that the work will respect the announced times and that the inconvenience will remain limited.
