Naples – A frightening moment in Naples for a couple of American tourists, attacked and robbed in broad daylight along Via Marina. The incident occurred while the couple, taking advantage of a break in the summer sun, were sitting on a nearby wall checking their smartphones and planning their next stops on the city tour.
Suddenly, a man approached the couple: he was a 40-year-old Nigerian national , already known to the police and illegally residing in Italy.
Taking advantage of a moment of distraction, the criminal grabbed the woman's backpack, attempting to violently snatch it away.
The victim tried to resist, but was dragged for a few meters on the asphalt, screaming in fear and pain, before the attacker managed to steal her backpack and escape between the cars stuck in traffic.
The alarm was raised immediately. Carabinieri from the Naples Borgoloreto station, already present in the area, began tracking down the robber. Within minutes, the 40-year-old was located, detained, and arrested. The backpack was recovered and returned to the American tourist, who was shocked but fortunately unharmed.
The images from the video surveillance cameras in Via Marina were also crucial to the success of the operation, allowing investigators to precisely reconstruct the phases of the robbery and identify the perpetrator.
The man was transferred to prison awaiting trial. Investigations are continuing to verify any other similar incidents attributable to the same perpetrator.
