Roma– DNA tests have confirmed the relationship between the woman and the baby girl whose bodies were found on Saturday in Villa Pamphili, one of Rome's main parks.

The news reinforces the hypothesis that the two deaths are linked in a macabre double homicide. The bodies, however, have not yet been identified, and both the identity of the killer and the motive remain unknown.
An initial autopsy suggested that the child, who was estimated to be about six months old, may have been strangled. Further investigations are underway to confirm this hypothesis and define the exact cause of death. In the meantime, the Prosecutor's Office is investigating for aggravated double homicide, highlighting the seriousness of the crime.
To help identify the woman, estimated to be around 30-40 years old and presumably originally from Eastern Europe, the police have released an appeal with photographs of the tattoos she had on her body. The fingerprints have also been sent abroad for checks in international databases, after the Italian ones did not provide results.
The bodies were discovered a short distance from each other on Saturday afternoon. The little girl was found first by two women in a downhill area of the park, among brambles and garbage.
Later in the evening, a family playing volleyball spotted the woman's body near some bushes. The girl's body showed signs of injury, while the woman's body, covered by a black sack, was in a more advanced state of decomposition.
Testimonies and reports
The investigations are also focusing on some reports considered to be of particular investigative interest. A woman reported seeing a man with a baby in his arms in Villa Pamphili on Friday evening near the site of the discovery.
This story is supported by what was also stated by three minors, who contacted 112 providing the same version of a man who was wandering around the Villa with a "bundle" in his arms. These elements could prove crucial for the identification of the woman and the child and for tracing the author of the double crime.
