Roma – A turning point in the macabre case of the woman and child found dead at Villa Pamphili. The alleged murderer, an American citizen, was arrested in Skiathos, Greece, following an intense investigative effort and crucial tips. The man is wanted on charges of aggravated double homicide.
The turning point came thanks to the decisive account of a witness who, on Wednesday evening, contacted the television program "Chi l'ha visto?". The viewer reported having witnessed, days before the bodies were found, a heated and violent fight between a woman and a man, not far from Villa Doria Pamphilj.
The discussion had been so heated that it required the intervention of a police car, which had identified the two.
The man arrested in Greece, described with Latin features, was also isolated in a surveillance camera image, filmed while holding the baby girl wearing the pink onesie, later recovered in the garbage. The Italian authorities had already distributed his name to all international police forces as a precautionary measure, given his escape abroad.
Investigators have reconstructed the last days of the life of the woman, a 29-year-old, and her baby girl of a few months. In the week before the discovery, mother and daughter used the tables of the San Silverio market, in the San Pietro area, to eat and the bathrooms to wash.
Some witnesses provided useful information: “His face was always hidden by a hat, sunglasses and a beard. He was very tall, robust and had a threatening attitude. I only heard them speak once and they spoke in English to each other,” a shopkeeper reported. A homeless man added another piece to the suspect’s profile: “That man was violent. A month ago he attacked a child who was playing and disturbed him.”
The arrest in Greece represents a fundamental step in shedding full light on this tragic event that has shaken the Capital. The investigations continue to clarify the motive and the exact dynamics of the double homicide.
