Naples – After a redevelopment project funded by the Metropolitan City, San Gaetano Errico Park in Secondigliano is being given a new lease of life. The approximately 33-square-meter green space, in the heart of the neighborhood, has been returned to residents with renovated facilities, new recreational spaces, and a focus on environmental sustainability.
The works aimed to preserve the naturalistic vocation of the park, taking care of the existing tree heritage and introducing new decorative species. The sports facilities were restored, outdoor fitness areas and two new modern play areas for children were installed.
There's also news for our four-legged friends: a dog walking area equipped with play elements has been inaugurated. The toilets have been refurbished, the seats have been fixed and the winter garden area, which had been unused for some time, has been brought back into use.
"Naples has historically lacked urban greenery," said Mayor Gaetano Manfredi, "but we are working to recover all the city parks. Today we are reopening Parco San Gaetano Errico, and at the beginning of July it will be Parco del Poggio's turn. Citizens ask us for maintenance and safety: we will do everything possible to ensure adequate surveillance."
The councilor for Green, Vincenzo Santagada, was also satisfied: «We are giving the city back a welcoming and functional space, designed for well-being and sociality. Parks must become true centers of aggregation and respect for the environment: this intervention is a concrete step in that direction».

It's great that the park has been renovated and is now open to everyone, but I hope it is well maintained. Parks are important to the community and to the well-being of people and animals, let's hope there are no problems in the future.
