A 20-year-old with no criminal record from Ercolano was arrested in Piazza della Repubblica for resisting a public official and possession of drugs for the purpose of dealing. The young man, on board a Fiat Panda, attempted to escape a check, but was stopped after a chase.
Searched, he was found in possession of 30 grams of hashish already divided into doses. He is now awaiting trial.
During the operation, the military identified 70 young people, checking 41 cars and 11 scooters. At the same time, with the support of the Campania Regiment, the Carabinieri searched the public housing blocks on Via Veseri in Massa di Somma.
In a cellar, 21 grams of marijuana in 11 sachets were seized, as well as a precision scale, packaging material, a machete and a knife with a 25-centimeter blade. Investigations are ongoing to identify those responsible.
The Carabinieri operation seems like an important step to fight youth deviance, but I wonder if these measures will be enough to prevent the drug problem among young people. The situation in these areas is complex and requires more effective solutions.
