Neapolitan taxi drivers attack: "Enough immobility, we want concrete answers on traffic"

The protest of Neapolitan taxi drivers is once again making itself heard with force. Almost a month after the strike of May 28, proclaimed by the city category despite the divisions between the unions, nothing has moved.

No concrete answer, no progress. And taxi drivers point the finger at the inaction of the institutions.

Urban mobility remains suffocated by increasingly unmanageable traffic, which penalizes non-scheduled public transport in particular. This is the heart of the protest that led, last May 28, to the establishment of a technical table by the president of the Transport Commission of the Municipality of Napoli, Gaetano Simeone.

A meeting that had raised some hope, especially after the formal promise – registered with the number PG/2025/490521 – to request the installation of cameras on the preferential lanes, to ensure compliance with the rules and facilitate the work of taxi drivers.

Since then, however, everything has stopped. No updates, no feedback. Only silence.
"We participated responsibly in the discussion," reads the statement released today by the non-unionized city branch, "and we expected concrete signals. Instead, while politicians are focused entirely on the regional campaign, Naples continues to be overlooked."

A harsh accusation, leveled at both President Simeone and the mayor: "We listened to public promises, even during the election campaign. But words were not followed by actions."

The tone of the press release becomes increasingly decisive:
“Let’s say enough. Enough with the broken promises, with the postponements, with the apparent management of problems that are daily and real. Naples deserves modern, efficient and respectful mobility for its workers and its citizens. We need political courage. We need responsibility. We need respect.”

The category announces that it will continue to make its voice heard, without lowering its voice:
"Naples cannot remain hostage to traffic. We will not stop."

The situation of taxi drivers in Naples is worrying and it seems that the institutions are doing nothing to solve the problems. It is important that there are more communications and updates on the plans to improve urban mobility.
