While Europe condemns Italy for its failure to clean up the Land of Fires, a group of citizens is organizing to take action.

On Wednesday 2 July, at 18.30:XNUMX p.m., at the Polo della Sostenibilità Ambientale in San Sebastiano al Vesuvio (via Panoramica Fellapane), the core of the “Environmental Sentinels” will be presented, a project promoted by the Let's Do It Italy association to map polluted sites in the Vesuvian area and speed up remediation interventions.

A concrete plan, not just volunteering

The initiative – also cited in the ruling of the European Court of Human Rights on the Terra dei Fuochi case – goes beyond simple activism: it aims to train aware citizens capable of identifying and reporting contaminated areas with precision.

“Italy’s inertia is serious, but it must motivate us, not discourage us,” says Vincenzo Capasso, president of Let’s Do It Italy. “Change can start from the bottom: we collaborate with associations, schools and institutions to create an official map of the areas to be reclaimed.”

How monitoring works

During the event, a guide from the Vesuvius National Park will illustrate the planned ecological walks and the use of TrashOut, an app for tracking abandoned waste. The data collected will flow into a digital platform that will serve as a basis for requesting targeted interventions from the authorities.

How to participate

Participation is free and open to all. To register, just follow the Facebook and Instagram pages of the Polo della Sostenibilità Ambientale. An opportunity to transform denunciation into action, in a territory where the environmental emergency can no longer wait.

The idea of mapping polluted sites is interesting but I don't know if it's enough to solve the problem. It's also important to involve more people and do a broader work to change the situation.
