Villa Literno – An act of intimidation, probably organized, hit the video surveillance system installed in the Land of Fires. During the night, unknown persons damaged and knocked down one of the poles on which six cameras were mounted, positioned between Trentola and Ischitella to combat illegal waste disposal and toxic fires.
The cameras, which have been active for several months thanks to a €700 grant from the Ministry of the Interior, were used to monitor an area historically plagued by illegal dumping and arson. Just a month ago, the area was cleaned up with a €1,5 million intervention.
"This gesture seems to want to hinder our control work, but we will not stop," declared the mayor of Villa Literno, Valerio Di Fraia, underlining the determination of the Administration and the police forces.
A few weeks ago, in the affected area, an inspection was carried out by the mayor Di Fraia and the Government Commissioner for Reclamation, Giuseppe Vadalà. The latter expressed closeness to the Municipality, announcing a new inspection next Friday to evaluate possible additional interventions.
The episode puts the spotlight back on TLand of Fires, where crime continues to challenge the State, trying to sabotage the instruments of legality. But the response of the institutions seems to be clear: no step back.

It is strange that cameras that should help prevent crime are destroyed. This shows how strong opposition there is to any control initiative, but I hope they do not give up.
