The mayor of Bacoli, Josi Gerardo Della Ragione, raised the alarm: "The community is worried, we must secure the coast. Thousands of people live and swim under the risky cliffs".
Epicenter at 4,9 km depth, a roar was also heard
According to the data of theVesuvius Observatory, the earthquake was located in the Gulf of Bacoli at a depth of 4,9 km and was accompanied by a roar heard by the inhabitants. The Municipality of Pozzuoli has released a notice on social media, inviting citizens to report any damage to the numbers of the Municipal Police (081/8551891) and Civil Protection (081/18894400).
Collapse in Pennata, intervention by the Port Authority
The mayor reports a land subsidence in Pennata, where the Port Authority intervened. “Fortunately there is no damage to people,” Della Ragione specifies, but underlines the urgency of safety works already foreseen in the commissioner’s plan, but not yet started.
“The coast is a danger, immediate intervention is needed”
Bacoli, overlooking the sea, has homes and beaches close to unstable cliffs. “On Sunday the area was full of swimmers and boats,” explains the mayor, “we issued prohibition orders, but people continue to approach. The planned works will not be enough: a broader plan is needed.”
Bradyseism on the rise: data from the Vesuvius Observatory
The Phlegraean area has been in a phase of ground uplift for months, with an increase in seismic activity. For updates, the Municipality refers to the Vesuvius Observatory website (www.ov.ingv.it).
Meanwhile the earth continues to shake. The shock of today is a further alarm bell for an area where hydrogeological and seismic risks are intertwined, while the population is calling for structural interventions before it is too late.
