Via Posillipo is preparing to change its face. The city council of Naples has approved the executive project for the extraordinary maintenance of the stretch between Piazza San Luigi and Via Santo Strato, a first concrete step towards the complete redevelopment of the Hill. The intervention, financed with funds from the Strategic Plan of the Metropolitan City, will involve a total investment of 7,6 million euros, with the opening of the construction site scheduled for next July and an estimated duration of 15 months.
The mayor of Naples has underlined how this intervention is part of a broader strategy, which aims to restore urban dignity to one of the symbolic places of the city, at a time when the Neapolitan body of water - from Bagnoli via Caracciolo – is at the center of renewed national and international attention.
Councilors Edoardo Cosenza and Vincenzo Santagada reiterated the organic nature of the project, which follows the path of the interventions already started on via Orazio and via Petrarca and those currently being tendered on via Boccaccio and via Manzoni, underlining how the design choices were shared with the heritage protection bodies. An integrated vision that aims not only to redo the road surface and sidewalks, but also to improve accessibility, safety and aesthetics of the entire area.
In detail, the project includes the removal of cobblestones – considered unsafe – in favor of a new, more durable pavement, interventions to restore the road foundations, the replacement of damaged manhole covers, the remaking of signs and the arrangement of walls, parapets, balustrades and trees. On the sidewalk front, the demolition of architectural barriers is also planned, with the creation of slides and tactile paths.
A complex, but necessary, construction site to restore life and functionality to one of the most fascinating views of the city. With the resources already identified, the administration aims to continue with the completion of the section that leads from Piazza San Luigi to Largo Sermoneta, as soon as ABC has finished the work on the sewer collector.

The project for via Posillipo seems like a great initiative, but I am not sure if the funds are enough to cover all the costs. I hope that the duration of the works does not extend too much and that the citizens can benefit from these improvements soon.
