Torre del Greco – The Torre Annunziata Public Prosecutor's Office continues its relentless efforts to combat illegal construction, which today led to the demolition of a 140-square-meter illegal structure in the heart of Vesuvius National Park.

The property, an illegal residential structure consisting of a living room, a bathroom and two bedrooms, was located at Via Pisani 35.

The demolition was carried out by the owner, on the orders of the Torre Annunziata Court – Torre del Greco branch, in compliance with two rulings dating back to 2008 and 2009.

An area subject to stringent constraints

The illegal building was located in an area subject to multiple environmental and landscape restrictions:

Landscape-environmental constraint (law 1497/39);
Seismic zone 2 (high earthquake risk);
Red Zone at high volcanic risk (regional law 21/2003);
Hydrogeological risk (Sarno Basin Authority Extractive Plan);
Peri-urban agricultural area (PUC) and integral protection zone of the Vesuvius Park.
Despite the bans, the construction had been carried out in violation of all regulations, threatening the balance of an already fragile territory.

The Prosecutor's Strategy: Repression and Prevention

As the Prosecutor's Office emphasized, demolitions are a fundamental tool not only for restoring the violated territory but also for discouraging further encroachment. In this case, the intervention was made possible thanks to a memorandum of understanding between the Prosecutor's Office and the Vesuvius National Park , which avoided the use of public funds thanks to the owner's cooperation.

A clear signal against illegality

The operation demonstrates the authorities' commitment to combating illegal construction, especially in areas of high environmental value. "Protecting the environment," the Prosecutor's Office reiterates, "also requires rigorous enforcement of court rulings, even those dating back many years."

Meanwhile, awareness-raising and enforcement efforts continue, aiming to protect Vesuvius and its protected areas from further devastation in the Vesuvius National Park.

The demolition of this illegal building in the Vesuvius National Park is important, but more should be done to prevent these situations. Existing laws appear insufficient, and enforcement must be more stringent.
