A few meters away, a second man, also holding a boulder, was watching the scene in a menacing manner. A video shot by residents shows a third man, armed with a glass bottle, challenging the first two, in a crescendo of tension that highlights the gravity of the situation.
This isn't an isolated incident, but part of a wave of violence that's fueling fear among citizens, especially at night. "It's a security emergency," denounces Francesco Emilio. Borrelli, deputy of the Greens-Left Alliance.
"Nights in the cities of the province of Naples have become synonymous with fear. Scenes reminiscent of an urban Wild West are unacceptable. Immediate intervention is needed to ensure order and security." Rosario Visone, co-spokesperson for Europa Verde Campania, adds: "More police controls are essential, but they are not enough.
Redevelopment projects are needed for at-risk youth. Safety is built through prevention and institutional presence in the area." Borrelli and Visone assure: "We will monitor the situation in Acerra, collecting citizens' complaints and supporting initiatives to restore legality and livability to the city."
