Vesuvius lights up again, this time not with fire or smoke, but with the music of a guitar legend. Al Di Meola, one of the great virtuosos of the six strings, will be the absolute protagonist of the now iconic concert at the summit organized by the Pomigliano Jazz Festival, one of the most anticipated events of the Campania summer. An event that combines landscape, charm and music in an unrepeatable combination.

At an altitude of 1.200 meters, on the crater of the most famous volcano in the world, at sunset, Di Meola will perform a special acoustic set together with guitarist Peo Alfonsi. The sky will slowly color while the notes will blend with the breathtaking panorama of the Golfo di Napoli. It will not be a simple concert: it will be a total sensory experience.

A musician with a boundless career, with over 30 solo albums and collaborations that have spanned genres and generations – from Chick Corea to Paco de Lucia, from Frank Zappa to Pavarotti – Al Di Meola will offer a musical journey that mixes his most famous songs with new Mediterranean sounds, Latin influences and affectionate references to Naples, a city to which he is tied by roots and inspirations.

The show will begin in the afternoon, at 16:30 p.m., when the audience will gather at the square at 1.000 meters above sea level in Ercolano. From there, they will begin a climb on foot along the panoramic bends of the volcano, guided by expert volcanologists. Once at the top, participants will watch the concert sitting on the ground, on cushions, in full contact with the rock and the sky, while the sun slowly sinks behind the horizon.

I don't know if I agree with the idea of having a concert on Vesuvius, because it could be dangerous and could distract from the beauty of the landscape. Music is beautiful but safety is more important.
