A moment of carelessness, a slip of the foot, and a mountain adventure turns into a nightmare, plunging into the void. It happened in Volturara Irpina, in the province of Avellino, where a mountaineer got stuck on a wall Monte Costa via ferrata after slipping during a hike.
The man, isolated and unable to move, was located and rescued by members of the Guardia di Finanza's Alpine Rescue team, the so-called "mountain police," in an operation that required precise technical maneuvers and composure. After the safe recovery, rescuers checked his physical condition, which fortunately was good.
The intervention, coordinated and timely, also saw the collaboration of the Fire Brigade and the Alpine rescue and speleological research in Campania. The episode, fortunately with a happy ending, refocuses attention on the importance of caution in the mountains and the quiet but essential work of specialized units in extreme environment rescue.
