America's Cup 2027: Schools take center stage: PCTOs approved for students

The 2027 America's Cup will be more than just a sporting spectacle and sailing. It will also be about training, experience, and orientation. The Ministry of Education and Merit, led by Giuseppe Valditara, has approved an amendment to the Sports Decree Law that opens the doors of the renowned international sailing competition to secondary school students. Thanks to this legislative change, the Pathways for Transversal Skills and Orientation (PCTO) will be an integral part of the event, offering students a concrete opportunity to learn on the job and experience the professional world associated with the event.

“The project offers students concrete opportunities for growth and professional orientation.”Valditara stated, also emphasizing the importance of respecting the rules and promoting sport as an educational tool. The initiative will focus specifically on the technological and professional orientations of the "4+2" sector, consistent with the areas of the ITS Academy: schools and local communities will thus be able to play an active role in organizing the most prestigious regatta in the world.

All activities, as specified by the Ministry, must be carried out with high safety standards: the hosting entities must update the Risk Assessment Document (DVR) with a section dedicated to PCTO students, to be shared with the schools involved.America’s Cup It thus becomes a training ground for skills, an open-air laboratory where you can learn not only how to plan, organize, and communicate a major event, but also how to get involved. And how to look far ahead.
