Rome – A conference was held recently at Palazzo Madama dedicated to the role of Artificial Intelligence in healthcare and its impact on the most vulnerable segments of the population.
An opportunity for institutions, experts, and healthcare professionals to discuss the potential of AI in healthcare and social care, promoted by Senator Francesco Giacobbe.
Among the protagonists of the initiative was also the ASL Salerno , represented by Dr. Antonio Coppola, director of the Telemedicine and Artificial Intelligence Process Governance Unit, who illustrated the Campania experience and, in particular, the cutting-edge nature of his healthcare company.
The Salerno Local Health Authority (ASL), in fact, was among the first in Italy to equip itself with a structure dedicated to the management and development of AI applied to public healthcare.
In his speech, Coppola highlighted how new technologies, if used wisely, can break down geographic, cultural, and social barriers, bringing care and assistance directly into people's homes, thus improving prevention, early diagnosis, and continuity of care.
During the conference, some of the innovative projects currently active in the Salerno area were presented, including:
Telestroke, awarded by Agenas and Sics, which allows for real-time management of cerebral stroke;
Remote monitoring of diabetic retinopathy in the inland areas of Salerno;
The use of predictive AI for mental health and dementia, in collaboration with Vanvitelli University;
The adoption of the GI Genius system in the endoscopic field for highly precise early diagnosis.
The Senate meeting confirmed the growing role of Artificial Intelligence as a strategic lever for innovation in the National Health Service, especially in terms of accessibility and equity of care for the most vulnerable segments of the population.
