Puppets tell stories, stilt walkers walk the ancient streets, jugglers challenge balance and fire, while the sounds of a street band accompany the steps of adults and children immersed in a daydream.
This is the beating heart of "Pinocchio nel Borgo," the event that has transformed the historic center of Montesano sulla Marcellana into an extraordinary open-air theater. From the Cathedral of Sant'Anna to Piazza Castello, the streets are filled with characters from Collodi's famous tale, brought to life by street artists, actors, and extras in a crescendo of emotion and live performances.
This initiative has a fairytale feel, yet it's also focused on enhancing the area's cultural and tourist potential, as Mayor Giuseppe Rinaldi emphasizes: "It's a project that focuses on an original and inclusive narrative to rediscover the potential of our village."
The event culminates with “The Ballad of Pinocchio ,” a show by Luigi Compagnone and staged by the La Cantina delle Arti company: a work that inspires dreaming and reflection, striking a perfect balance between poetry and intensity.
Artistic director Enzo D'Arco has no doubts: "This is a unique event in the Vallo di Diano, truly designed for all ages. Pinocchio is a universal language, and today Montesano speaks it fluently."
To complete the experience, the aromas and flavors of “L'Osteria del Gambero Rosso”, where the cuisine is inspired by the protagonists of the fairy tale with themed dishes: from Mangiafuoco's sandwich to Geppetto's fusilli, right up to Lucignolo's crisps and the Fairy's sweet cotton candy.

The Pinocchio nel Borgo event looks very interesting and colorful. I wanted to go, but I had other commitments. The cuisine inspired by the fairy tale is a great idea; maybe next time I'll be able to go.
