Caserta – Ivanhoe Schiavone, son of Francesco Schiavone, known as Sandokan – the historic Casalesi clan leader, currently serving a prison sentence under the 41 bis regime – is among the two arrested in the operation carried out by the Carabinieri of the Caserta Investigative Unit, on the orders of the Naples District Anti-Mafia Directorate.

Pasquale Crovino, originally from Formia, was arrested with him. Both are accused of extortion, money laundering, and self-laundering, crimes aggravated by mafia methods and aimed at facilitating the Camorra organization.

The investigation, coordinated by prosecutor Nicola Gratteri and deputy prosecutor Michele Del Prete, uncovered a complex web of interests linked to two highly valuable agricultural plots—approximately €500—located near Grazzanise airport, a short distance from the farm owned by the clan leader.

The story: Intimidation and real estate deals to recover liquidity

According to what has emerged, the lands in question had been registered years ago in the name of a nominee, with the aim of protecting them from possible state seizures. Upon the nominee's death, the property passed to his children, who decided to lease the land to a third party.

At that point, Schiavone and Crovino allegedly pressured the tenant, using typically mafia threats and intimidation, to force him to terminate the contract and waive his right of first refusal, thus allowing the agricultural land to be sold to individuals already identified by the suspects.

The operation, presented at a press conference at the Naples Prosecutor's Office, highlighted the desire of Ivanhoe Schiavone—the last of Sandokan's sons still at liberty—to reactivate the clan's family economic network, recovering cash for reinvestment.

The 13-hectare plot of land will now be placed under precautionary seizure. Pre-trial detention orders have been issued between the provinces of Latina and Caserta.

The investigation marks a new chapter in the long struggle against the Casalesi clan, which, despite the blows inflicted by the judiciary and law enforcement, continues to seek space and resources through violent methods and shady economic channels.
