A man arrested with 80 grams of hidden among the bars and 2400 euros in cash seized along with knives and a cell phone
Appearances can be deceiving, even among sweet treats. In Capri, drugs are now camouflaged among chocolate bars. Carabinieri discovered and seized 80 grams of hashish, cleverly hidden inside foil wrappers identical to those used for the bars, during a search of the home of a 36-year-old islander, who was subsequently arrested.
The man was also found in possession of €2400 in cash, believed to be the proceeds of illicit activities, as well as a cell phone and two knives. All the material was seized by the Carabinieri, who have long been engaged in a rigorous effort to combat small-scale drug dealing, which often takes increasingly creative forms on the island.
The concealment method discovered is not unique. In recent months, Carabinieri officers from the Naples Provincial Command have intercepted drugs hidden inside fake lighters, colorful Mylar bags similar to those found on newsstand toys, and even "Willy Wonka" chocolate bars containing sticks of hashish.
Some have even transformed small Game Boy-shaped keychains into micro-cans of marijuana, capable of concealing up to 56 grams. This is an increasingly sophisticated strategy among dealers, but one that continues to clash with the Carabinieri's widespread surveillance, even in seemingly unsuspecting areas like the Blue Island.

It's amazing how drugs can be hidden so creatively, but I think it's important that law enforcement continues to do its job to stop these illicit activities and protect the community from harm.
